Summary: A legendary cannabis strain that makes time slooooow down
OG Kush isn’t a strain I’ve had a lot of experience with, so I was excited to get my hands on an eighth from High Desert Relief during a trip down to Santa Fe.
OG Kush Strain Review
Aptly named, OG Kush is a legendary cannabis strain, with a supposed lineage of Chemdawg, Lemon Thai, and Hindu Kush. This is allegedly a slightly sativa-leaning hybrid, but my strain hit like an indica – very body-high and sedating. According to Leafly, true OG Kush genetics smell like lemon, pine, and fuel, but this strain did not – so who knows what the genetic origins are. (Breeders can and do name strains whatever they want – strain names are generally a poor indicator of experience.) However, my experience was consistent with other people’s experience with OG Kush.
Bud appearance
I got too high and didn’t take any photos of these nugs – whoops! They were medium-sized and dense, covered with the layer of resin you would expect from an indoor-grown kush. It did dry out sitting in my weed drawer, but that’s likely more due to the fact that New Mexico has a very arid climate and I kept the bud in the plastic ziplock bag it came in rather than moving it into a glass jar with a humidity pack. Live and learn!
Aroma
It’s dank. It smells like a weedy-weed strain, which is not an amazing linguistic sentence, but if you smoke weed, you know what I mean. Kushes often smell dank and skunky and this one was no exception. There was a strong hint of citrus at the end of the inhale with a small hint of earthiness, which was made more noticeable in the flavor
Experience
This bud smokes well, hitting smoothly without harshness at the back of the throat. I found this to be a sedating strain. Not a couch-locked type of sedation, but the kind where time slows down and the world moves a little more gently, which was incredibly pleasant once I figured out what was going on. (I had to check my watch several times in a row before I realized it was the weed.)
It was equal parts head and body high, feeling the sensation settle first behind my eyes and then move into my limbs, which were made heavy. I liked this for an afternoon smoke sesh, after my work was done. It was a great strain to walk the dog with or to smoke before yoga and really settle into the poses. I also enjoyed diving into my coloring books after smoking this, finding the hours slipping away without notice.
