Summary: A hydrating CBD lip balm infused with hemp oil

It’s time for a controversial take – I almost never buy lip balm.

I believe that most lip balms fall into one of two categories: purposefully drying to keep you coming back for more, and cheap swag given away by companies. I attend enough events to get lip balms as cheap swag so I rarely buy them.

Don’t get me wrong – I use lip balms frequently. One of my neurodivergent brain hyperfixations is lip picking, and any flake of skin that starts to peel off my lips is ripped off quickly. This causes sores and wound patches and can make me quite sensitive to lip balms that are too cooling.

I’m also sensitive to scents and find many lip balms to have an unpleasantly strong scent that translates into a weird taste in my mouth. Your senses of taste and smell are intimately connected, and I can’t stand wearing a balm that taints my coffee or tea.

In short, I’m weird about lip balms. But this CBD lip balm from hemp skincare brand HIGH N MIGHTY is, without a doubt, my new favorite.

What’s not to love about it? The balm itself has a smooth texture that makes it glide on in application – without coating my lips in a thick coat. It’s thin enough to absorb fairly quickly but still hydrating to my chapped lips. I’ve found myself reaching for this balm daily since arriving at the high altitudes of the Colorado mountains.

It has a short list of easily pronounceable ingredients that includes cannabis sativa hemp, coconut oil, beeswax, CBD oil, and an essential oil blend of vanilla, peppermint, and strawberry. It smells slightly pepperminty and fruity with a hint of weed (one of my favorite scents) without being overpowering.

I like the shape of this container too. Most lip balms are short and stocky, but this one comes in a longer, thinner tube that fits well in my purse.

The one thing I will not that I don’t love is that this lip balm doesn’t hold up well in the heat. I’ve been in Southern Utah and Nevada for the past few weeks and the tube is basically liquid at this point. But that’s a common problem with products that don’t have a long list of preservatives or chemical thickeners. It’s a little frustrating to use, but it’s still usable.

CBD in Lip Balm?

What does the CBD do in a lip balm? Great question.

Research on CBD’s topical benefits for your skin is still in the early stages, as much cannabis and hemp research is.
A 2022 review of research on CBD for skin concluded that “there is overwhelming clinical evidence suggesting the beneficial effects of topical cannabinoids in treating a myriad of skin conditions. There is still much research that needs to be conducted…”
The review also noted a few key points:

• The endocannabinoid system plays a key role in the skin barrier and repairing properties, noting “using cannabinoids antagonists may play a key role in skin barrier repair properties.”
• Your ECS (“cannabinoid signaling”) regulates epidermal functions and ECS receptor signaling “can influence wound healing.” (For me, this means that CBD-infused lip balm may be able to help my lip patches heal faster.)
