Lemon pepper is a supreme seasoning blend. There’s no better dry rub for chicken wings or chicken tenders, but I’ll admit that when I saw this combination in a CBD topical balm, I was skeptical.

However, this balm came to me as part of a larger package of HIGHNMIGHTY CBD products, all of which I have loved. I’ll be frank – this scent is not my favorite. I am quite particular with aromas and this one is quite heavy on the pepper and lavender. But scent preference is highly personal with that being said, this is a fantastic CBD balm.

I love HIGHNMIGHTY because they make high-quality CBD products with a short list of natural ingredients, and this Lemon Pepper balm is no exception. This balm is made of hemp, coconut oil, beeswax, and a blend of four essential oils: lemongrass, black pepper, peppermint, and lavender.

The coconut oil and beeswax create a velvety soft texture that slowly absorbs into your skin, leaving each area hydrated and refreshed.

The essential oils come through strongly in the scent. I can smell a little lemon grass and peppermint, but it is heavily black pepper and lavender when in the jar. I am an odd duck in not preferring the smell of lavender, so that may be why the scent of this balm is not my favorite. When applied to the skin, the lemongrass smell comes through more strongly.

The oils work together to increase the efficacy of the CBD in the hemp. All four oils have extensively researched anti-inflammatory properties, which help soothe aching muscles, painful joints, and general stiffness.

This balm has a thin, silky texture that helps it absorb faster than thicker balms. When I lived in the van I noticed some separation of the balm when it was heated (AKA when the van was in the sun and heated up like the metal box it is) but since moving into a temperature-stable house, it’s not been an issue. Separation is natural for products made without thickeners or preservatives and it’s a price I’m always willing to pay.

I can’t speak to the dosage of the CBD in this balm. HIGHNMIGHTY’s packaging and website call it “full-spectrum hemp” and I imagine the dosage is left off so it doesn’t cause an issue with testing. It is not the strongest CBD balm I’ve used, but it is quite effective for general aches and pains

CBD is great for topicals because it has strong anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. CBD is my first line of defense for aching muscles and post-workout soreness. I’ve even healed a sprained ankle almost entirely with CBD! Topical products deliver CBD to the endocannabinoid receptors in your skin at the site of application, providing localized relief.

CBD is also thought to be good for the skin, with early research suggesting it may be able to help with cell turnover and skin rejuvenation.
