Cannabis and skincare go together like peanut butter and jelly. But the more I have these conversations, the more I discover that many people are unaware of the incredible benefits that cannabis and hemp-based skincare products can have on your skin. So without further ado, let’s go into exactly how I use cannabis in my skincare routine – and why you may want to do so as well.
My Skincare Routine
My skincare routine is incredibly simple. Everyone approaches skincare with their own goals and mine are: to keep my skin well hydrated without destroying my skin barrier. As such, my routine is quite simple.
Morning skincare
- Wash with cold water
- Apply Olay 5-in-1 serum
- Apply Olay daily moisturizer with SPF 15
- Mist with CBD skin spray, usually HIGH N MIGHTY or Potency 710
Evening skincare
- Clean skin with Garnier Micellar Water with Vitamin C
- Rotate between three creams:
- Neutrogena hyaluronic acid
- Olay Retinol cream
- Element Apothec Belle Visage Face Serum
- Once every few weeks, I’ll apply an AHA face mask
How I use Cannabis in my Skincare
There are three products in my skincare routine that contain cannabis or hemp: two facial sprays with CBD (one from HIGHNMIGHTY and the other from Potency 710) and my all-time favorite product, the Belle Visage Face Serum with CBD and CBG.
I don’t use any of these products every single day: I’ll rotate with the facial sprays when I notice my skin is a little dry and in need of extra moisturizing. A few times a week, I use the face serum a few times a week, every third or fourth day.
I also have a lip balm with CBD which I use intermittently in addition to my medicated lip balm (the arid desert air is no joke!)
I find the most benefit when I use long-absorbing products with cannabis or hemp. Perhaps this is because cannabinoids like CBD are lipophilic (fat-loving) so heavier products like serums allow them to absorb generously.

Is Weed Good for Skincare?
Yes, in short, cannabis can be good for your skin.
You have an endocannabinoid system in your body that is a master regulatory system, responsible for keeping all of your other systems in homeostasis – including your dermis, or skin. Every organ in your body has ECS receptors, including your skin. Topical application of cannabis-based products can activate these receptors.
- Applying CBD topically has been found to have “anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, analgesics, wound healing and anti-proliferative effects on the skin.”
- CBD has been extensively studied for its effects on “acne, eczematous disorders, lichen planus, melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, melasma, prurigo, pruritus, psoriasis, scleroderma and systemic sclerosis, and seborrheic dermatitis – all demonological conditions that its found to help.
- A recent research study suggests that CBD can help prevent UVA and DNA damage caused by the sun.
- Hemp oil, high in CBD is known for its antioxidant properties, which can help prevent aging via fine lines and wrinkles.
Unlike many other skincare ingredients, CBD is considered generally safe for most people, thanks to the endocannabinoid system.
Of course, all of these benefits are predicated on using high-quality CBD and hemp oil in well-made skincare products. You wouldn’t buy skincare from the gas station, so don’t buy hemp products there either.
My favorite cannabis skincare companies are Element Apothec, HIGHNMIGHTY, and Potency 710, all women-owned companies that focus on creating small batches of high-quality products to help your skin look and feel its best.
