Summary: A hydrating skin mist from an aesthetician-founded skincare company

Desert climates are arid. Coming from the humid and water-logged northeast, my travels west in the van made me appreciate just how moist the air back home is.
I’ve been out west since May of 2024 and settled in New Mexico for six months. The air in the high desert is arid and I often find myself waking with cotton mouth similar to smoking. Since moving here, I’ve had to make a few changes to my skincare routine to keep my skin happy. Simple things like applying lip balm before bed or going outside, and incorporating a moisturizing skin mist.
About Potency No. 710 CBD Modern Mist
I picked up this bottle of Potency 710 CBD Modern Mist during my last trip to Las Vegas for MJ Biz Con. I was fortunate that Potency 710 was an event sponsor and this little bottle was included in a swag bag. Prior to moving to New Mexico, skin mists weren’t even on my radar – but after two months of desert living, I was thrilled to be able to try this one.
The instructions for this spray advise you to use it as a mist, toner, mid-day pick-me-up, or after exercise for “head-to-toe relief.” The bottle also notes that if you’re using it as a toner, you should wipe your skin off after cleansing as many minerals found in tap water can be dehydrating.
I typically use this spray as a mist in the morning after I’ve applied my serum and moisturizer for an added layer of hydration for my skin. I’ve been fortunate since moving to New Mexico to not notice a big change in my combination skin, but I also know that dryness can happen over time and I want to take steps to mitigate that.
The list of ingredients is too long for me to type out, but contains many wholesome ingredients, including Witch Hazel, orange extract, general fruit extract, two kinds of sugar extract, coconut oil, jojoba oil, green tea, lavender oil, lemon extract, MCT oil, and CBD distillate. It has a rather complex aroma and distinct aroma.
For me, the smell is heavy on citrus and earthiness. It’s quite orange but not lightened from the fruitiness, rather weighed down, particularly from the jojoba oil. A spray is generous and after misting my face, I often find myself holding my breath so I don’t inhale in it. If I do, it causes me to cough.
I am particularly sensitive to aromas (sensitive brains, sensitive bodies) and I will be frank: this is not my favorite scent for a topical, particularly one that goes on my face. However, the odor is not offensive or bad, it merely does not tickle my fancy. Potency 710 is a good skincare brand and in this instance, the benefits of using this facial mist outweigh my dislike of the smell of it. Were it any stronger, longer lasting, or more pungent, my opinion would be different.
What this spray does not have is any added colors, dyes, or potassium sorbate, a thickening ingredient that I am allergic to, all of which I appreciate.
So how does it feel? Refreshing and hydrating. As I mentioned above, I didn’t come to this spray with dramatically dry skin – the fact that I have combination skin works in my favor in this environment. I use it a few times a week to add an extra level of hydration to my simple skincare routine, and I’m pleased with how it works.
Important note: my version of the Modern Mist is an older packaging. The new ones come in glass bottles and include CBG in the formula as well.
Does CBD Work in Skincare?
CBD is having a moment in the skincare space. If you’re suspicious about that, I understand – it also had a moment in pillowcases and socks. But CBD is a multifaceted compound that interacts with many receptor types in your body, not just those in your endocannabinoid system. But this moment is actually backed by research.
- Topical application of CBD has “anti-inflammatory, anti-itching, analgesics, wound healing and anti-proliferative effects on the skin.”
- CBD has been studied for its effects on “acne, eczematous disorders, lichen planus, melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, melasma, prurigo, pruritus, psoriasis, scleroderma and systemic sclerosis, and seborrheic dermatitis.”
- Recent research suggests that CBD can help prevent UVA and DNA damage caused by the sun.
This product contains CBD distillate, which is the isolated cannabinoid stripped from all other parts of the plant. CBD is considered generally safe for use without adverse reactions because of your endocannabinoid system.
